Hagstrom Vintage 1967 Viking 12 Hollowbody 12 String Guitar VSB

Vintage Hagstrom Viking 12, 1967, 12 String Hollowbody Guitar, Vintage Sunburst

Description:

Serial Number 704397

Weight:  6Lb 10.4 Oz.

Rare! A vintage 1967 Hagstrom Viking 12 (H-12), made in Sweden. It’s a hollow/semi-hollow electric with twin single-coil pickups, sunburst finish, and the classic Hagstrom “H” crest tailpiece. A fairly rare and collectible piece, especially for Hagstrom enthusiasts and vintage 12-string players.

Dialed in and set up in-shop, plays great with no issues. This Viking has set sail across many a stage and has the road wear to prove it! Various finish chips, scrapes, and dings; some headstock nailholes due to he missing hagstrom emblem, repaired crack in back. Missing mounted pickguard, exposed mounting holes. Still in excellent playing condition, a piece of history!

History:

  • Introduced: mid-1960s, after the standard Viking gained popularity (famously used by Elvis in ’68).
  • Position: Meant to compete with Gibson ES-335-style guitars, but with Scandinavian flair and a lighter build.
  • 12-string role: Hagstrom marketed the Viking 12 as a jangly companion to the Rickenbacker 12s, but at a more affordable price.
  • Production: Relatively limited numbers compared to 6-string Vikings, making these moderately rare today.
  • The stamped plate on the neck heel confirms Hagstrom’s serialized production system. Run “704” aligns with 1967 production, which matches the features here.

Headstock and Tuners

  • The long, narrow Hagstrom headstock adapted to fit 12 tuners in two vertical rows.
  • “Made in Sweden” gold lettering on back is period-correct for late ’60s.

Body & Finish

  • Double-cutaway hollow/semi-hollow body with violin-style f-holes.
  • Sunburst finish was common on Viking 12s of this era.
  • White binding around the body and neck.

Pickups & Electronics

  • Hagstrom single-coil pickups with metal mesh covers, typical of 1965–68 Vikings.
  • Four knobs (volume/tone per pickup) and a pickup selector toggle.

Tailpiece

  • The large trapeze tailpiece with the Hagstrom “H” crest and lions is a signature Viking feature.
