Description:
The Status Eclipse 5-string Bass is a high-end instrument produced by Status Graphite, a UK company known for their innovative use of graphite composite in bass necks. Here’s a breakdown of its main characteristics:
Construction & Materials
Neck:
- Made of graphite composite rather than wood, which gives it exceptional strength, stability, and resistance to climate/humidity changes.
- Set-neck design, giving better sustain and tonal consistency across the strings.
Body:
- lightweight alder body and Flamed maple top.
- Sculpted for ergonomic comfort.
Fingerboard:
- Phenolic (a dense composite material) instead of traditional wood, further enhancing stability and brightness.
- 24 frets with dot position markers.
Electronics
Pickups:
- Equipped with Status Hyperactive pickups, designed for clarity and wide frequency response.
Preamp:
- Standard Preamp 9V Preamp Provides a 3-band EQ (bass, middle, treble) with cut/boost very powerful and versatile, offering plenty of headroom.
- Warm, plenty of usable tone shaping, lighter weight (one battery)
Controls:
- Volume, pickup blend, and 3-band EQ.
- Includes an active/passive switch for tonal flexibility.
Tone & Playability
Tone:
- Very clear, articulate, and “hi-fi” sounding, with deep low end, glassy highs, and piano-like sustain.
- Great for players who need precision, such as in jazz fusion, funk, progressive rock, and modern pop.
Neck feel:
- Slim, extremely fast, and stable. Graphite necks are resistant to warping and provide low action with minimal adjustments.
Versatility:
- Suitable for slap, fingerstyle, and pick players due to its wide tonal range.
Notable Features
- Graphite necks eliminate dead spots common in wood necks.
- Built with professional touring musicians in mind, so reliability and consistency are top notch.
